Why Is Search Engine Marketing So Effective?

SEM (Search Engine Marketing) is a pooling of various online marketing strategies to increase traffic flow to a website, a blanket term which includes SEO (Search Engine Optimization), SMO (Social Media Optimization), pay-per-click advertising, and paid inclusion into search engines.

But why is SEM so effective? A good SEM campaign can vastly increase your website’s traffic and boost sales, more so than any other marketing campaign. So why does it work so well?

The answer is variety. SEM draws on many different strategies, rather than relying on just one. SMO “gets the word out” to entire communities of people who stand to be interested in your products and services. Pay-per-click advertising works much like standard marketing, placing your advertisements on the monitors of hundreds if not thousands of people across the internet. Paid inclusion makes sure that search engines get around to evaluating and listing your website in a timely fashion. And SEO ensures that your website’s META tags, keyword content, and backlink promotions all work together to ensure that your website places as high as possible on said search engines.

In essence, where your traditional marketing campaign might target only one or two areas, good SEM covers the full spectrum of marketing possibilities.

Be sure before paying for SEM that you know what the company is offering, however. A good SEM service will be upfront about which of these services it offers, and how much it charges for them. Some SEM services focus on only one or two aspects of online marketing, such as search engine inclusion and SEO, for example. Others offer certain services for low prices, but charge significantly more to include the full spectrum of SEM. And there is nothing wrong with paying an SEM service to do strictly SEO or strictly search engine inclusion. But you should know upfront that that’s all the service plans to do, and that anything more will cost extra.

SEM is effective because it works with the natural patterns of traffic on the internet. It capitalizes on advertisements, on search engines, even on word of mouth through social media. A good SEM company knows how to use each outlet of marketing to its best advantage, and your business booms as a result of it. That’s the true secret of SEM; knowing how to work with the internet, instead of working against it.

    I am trying to promote two programs that I have joined. Whats the most effective marketing strategy ?
    I have several websites and programs that would like to promote but have no idea how to go about it. I have paid for a year to be placed in search engines($200) and the other one is about the same but in monthly payments. As for as I know, this is done once a month for one day. I am probably placed way down in the search engines. Supposedly, the monthly submissions will put it higher on the list. I’ve only been into this for a couple of weeks with one and 3 weeks with the other. I’m making payments monthly for a merchants account and have submitted to lots of fre ad sites. I’ve paid for one. I’m on a limited budget. Both programs require a monthly payment also. I need a quick way to get the word out. I really had hoped to make a profit or at least enough to pay for what I’m putting into it. I’m getting worried.

    Since it hasn’t been a month yet, it’s definitely too early for you to start getting worried. It takes a lot of people months to start seeing a profit from their online businesses. You are in the beginning stages and are planting the seeds….allow them time to grow. It’s great that you have already taken action, but you should do a bit of research on SEO to understand how to rank well with the search engines. I’m afraid your submissions won’t mean much if you haven’t optimized your webpages.

    Here’s what I suggest. First and foremost, if you really want to succeed at what you’re trying to build you must *COMMIT* to it completely. There is no room for doubting what you’re trying to do…believe that you can and will succeed and your goals will be realized. Right now, whether you think you can make this work or you think you can’t…you’re right!! Believe in what you’re doing. That is more important than you know.

    Second, *FOCUS* on your goals. Have you set specific goals yet? Try setting a 6 week goal, a 3 month goal, and a 6 month goal and so. This will give you something to strive for and allow you to plan on how to get there. Be careful not to get distracted. The Internet is full of distractions, so stay focused!

    Finally, *TAKE PERSISTAN AND CONSISTEN ACTION* every day to grow your business. This does not need to cost money, although some methods do. You can do things like making 5 forum posts every day and just by having your website link in your signature you are doing some advertising! You can also start a blog for free and link it back to your website. Another way to boost your traffic.

    Staying comitted and focused on building your business while taking consistent actions will result in your success!     Sorry to tell you, but paying for someone to submit your sites is not the way to go. Submitting more than once is just plain crazy, and does not do a thing. Once search engines find your site, they begin to index it by crawling it. Usually a little at a time. They find it by following links from sites that are already in their index. After that, google is usually very slow to put a new site into the search results, but Yahoo and msn might start sending you traffic pretty soon. It sounds like you have a couple of needs. (1) Traffic now. (2) Search Engine Optimization and education for long term. For everything you need to know about SEO I recommend you get Aaron Walls book. It is constantly updated and will pay for itself thousands of times over. As far as short term traffic: Post in forums that are related to what you are selling. Use Keywords as anchor text in signature file links when posting. Write Articles. Everyday. Make them helpful. Post them to as many article directories as you can. Use quirky and even funny headlines to stand out. Open a myspace profile and start adding friends that might be interested in your goods. Start commenting on blogs.
